This Weather Ain’t Stoppin’ Me!

You realize that ever since the beginning of 2014, most of the United States has experienced some form of inclement or severe weather: snow; ice; freezing rain; wind chills; tornadoes. It seems only the west coast and the state of Florida are the only parts of the country that have been able to enjoy consistent temperatures (which is very strange). I would be able to walk outside, but for the most part, even the sidewalks weren’t safe to walk on due to the ice.

I now have a slight pain in between my shoulder blades and I deal with the ups and downs of the swellness in my ankles due to the lymphedema. I refuse to let this weather hold me back, so it’s a blessing that I have tools to work out with and I can work out inside!

Of course, music is one of my tools of motivation. Gotta have it! As I write this blog post, I’m listening to music right now and it’s the kind that you would want to work out to: Gospel House; well appropriate for a Sunday afternoon! Gospel House – Sundays at 2pm EST

It’s a shame, but I have to dust off my stability ball. That shows you how long I haven’t used it LOL! I also have my Zumba Fitness DVD; resistance bands; dumbbells; Mark Jenkins Jump Rope; last but not least, a fitness center in the community that I live in.

So, I won’t allow the weather to stop me from progress! My healthy eating has been off-and-on. I will get back to my healthier choices!  I claim this!

I include my commute to and from work on the myfitnesspal app. I need to include more strength training. My muscles need toning!

I pray that everyone have a wonderful week and continue your health journey! Don’t let the weather stop you! Keep it moving!

Your Body Talks to You (And You MUST Listen!)

Another good reason why I should continue to pursue and maintain a healthier lifestyle:   “I’m not as young as I used to be” (LOL!)

I might have mentioned that I fell on last week; trying to be a ‘nosey neighbor.’ I didn’t recover quickly. I didn’t pull any muscles; just a soreness that healed over time.  Now I know that I’ll have to be careful walking down stairs and some people wonder why I look down…THAT’S why! LOL!

I know that I won’t be able to get a full eight hours of sleep.  Those days only lasted when I was much younger!  Several fitness experts will tell you “Abs are made in the kitchen.” It’s important that your body needs to have a good, healthy consumption of food as well as a CONSISTENT workout routine.  Just this past weekend, I’m searching for a Zumba class.  I want to get back to THAT MissAnn! I’m pushing myself to find one that’ll fit my schedule, along with strength training.  It’s well needed.

I’ll be grateful when this winter weather is long gone, because I enjoy being outside and walking in the warm sunlight with my gear; headphones; my walking shoes.  I’m counting down the days to the Spring season.  I know that I’ll have to change my boots for new ones.  I need support for my feet because I have no arch.  DSW Shoes has become my go-to store for wedge shoes for the past two years.  It’s unfortunate that I don’t get to use my gift certificates when they arrive in the mail–especially for my birthday!

It’s important to be aware of what your body is doing and what it can tell you.  If we all did, I think the human population would be in a better situation with our health. I’ve observed family members, friends, and loved ones leave this earth and it’s only February 2014.  We as a human race MUST take better care of ourselves!  If we don’t, we won’t be able to count on anyone else to do so.

You know I can’t end a blog post without music! Some or all don’t have anything to do with exercise LOL!

When Reality Hits The Fan (A Catch-up Edition)

What an interesting couple of weeks it has been! I now realize that everything consumed isn’t always accepted by the body. That 10-day detox I was on jumpstarted my goal to truly get myself in better shape!

image

True case scenario: I completely lost it on yesterday, purchasing fast food. My wallet and my body experienced a “buyer’s remorse.” I know I was in the moment, due to the fact I had a day of meetings. In between those times, I bought the food and use the restaurant’s free Wi-Fi. It seemed as if my body wanted to get rid of the waste IMMEDIATELY!  In my opinion, that’s a good thing! In my 20s and some of my 30s, once I stayed active and ate better, I could do more. As I get older and realize that I have to stay limber and not be complacent with pursuing a healthier lifestyle, THAT is when reality hits the fan!

I haven’t weighed myself since the detox and I’m nervous to see what the numbers look like. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to share the results in next week’s post.

On yesterday, another reality set in: watch where you’re going. I was being a ‘nosey neighbor’ looking through a window in the upper level of the staircase. I missed two steps and fell, losing an earring (this pair I’ve had for 20 years) in the process. It wasn’t a severe fall, but my left ankle was a little sore. I took some OTC (Over the counter) medication and elevated my foot. In addition, a good-ole cold compress was applied. It’s better than yesterday, that’s for sure! At times like this is when reality hits the fan: take good care of yourself!

I continue to strive to be healthy and not give up! Now to get back to dancing again; that’ll be awesome! Until next time….
