Well, I had a very interesting week. I have two more days until my “Presidential Number Celebration!”
I received a call from the therapist who measured me for my compression knee-his. Make sure that you check with your insurance company to see if they cover them. I still had to pay an out-of-pocket expense. First I was told over $200 for two pairs. Once we reviewed the deductible, it came out to be abot $100. That was a relief on my wallet LOL! Cinnamon and Black to be exact; and they’re open-toe! I need my toes to breathe 🙂
On yesterday was the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. While the official date was on August 28, 1963, the march was held on yesterday (August 24, 2013). People from all over the U.S. came to DC to commemorate a historical account within the Civil Rights Movement. District of Columbia wants to become the 51st State: New Columbia. None of the “Washingtonians” have a voice in Congress that could speak on their behalf despite Home Rule. Congress controls the purse strings as well, so we marched for support of statehood and for DC residents to have full, basic rights as the other 50 states and its citizens too.
So what’s this have to do with my blog for today? I met some people that I didn’t know and I walked for most of the time. I did 2.49 miles via public transit. Even though we were taking care of business in the name of social justice, I had fun! It was a beautiful day and you couldn’t have asked for a better day to have it!
My ankles don’t swell as much but I still have to wear my socks; my follow-up appointment is next month. I’m doing the self lymph drainage now and I’ll continue to get the hang of it! There are places in my body where the lymph nodes are and lightly-applied massages are used to help the fliud circulate.
I’m trying to drink more water. I have managed to jump off the wagon and back on again. August 27, 2013 will be a different kind of day. I’m looking forward to it! As a disclaimer, I’m going to have fun but I’m cheating Lol
Starting today is my solo journey renewed entitled #Operation HealthyLife!
I had a setback on my professional side of life this past week but I won’t allow this or anything else negative to determine my destiny! Good health = wealth is what I mentioned in a previous post. I’m determined to get back in shape and really changing my eating habits!
This afternoon, I went to Whole Foods and a local Farmer’s Market. Had I followed my first mind, I should’ve remained at the second place! WF is good but expensive. I almost cried at the register! LOL! My goal is to cut back on processed foods, sugar and sweets, bread, dairy, and alcohol. Now in nine days, I celebrate my “Presidential Number” birthday. My menu will be different so God knows what I will eat! In addition, making sure I stick to a workout plan with consistency. I want to be able to reduce this fluid retention due to my lymph system not being able to circulate fluid to my circulatory system. I actually have my last two therapy sessions this week. I was also taught to do a self manual lymph drainage. Hopefully, changes in my eating habits and getting back to workouts will make a difference!
As promised in a previous blog post, I would keep you updated about my recent visit to a podiatrist and a Rehabilitation Services.
I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphedema. The fluid that should be going through and out my body isn’t. The lymph and circulatory systems work hand-in-hand. I begin my treatment or therapy sessions this week: massage techniques and being fitted for compression socks. I definitely didn’t have this in mind for an upcoming birthday LOL!! So while some people are able to wear sandals during the summer, I won’t be one of those people.
As I approach my ‘Presidential Number’ birthday, I realize that it’s better to change your mindset or outlook when it comes to anything, especially your health. I acknowledge that I step off the sidewalk and get back on to start a new walk. I started my commute back on public transit; watching what I eat; incorporating exercise back in my routine; even learned a new line dance! I’m looking forward to getting some weight off me. It doesn’t need to hang around LOL!
Besides, who knows your own health better than you? Now I experience arthritis so I know I have to keep moving! Can’t stop won’t stop!
Here’s something to make you want to move! Careful with your footwork LOL!!
“Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2)
This particular blog post will be short this week. It never fails when life experiences knock you back into reality of how tomorrow is never promised to us. We must take better care of ourselves in order to do what God wants us to do, in addition to being a blessing to others.
I posted this Textgram after finding out that one of my social media friends that shared a common bond of real music passed away recently. I never knew of her illness; only that she was in the hospital. Despite her illness, she still supported the online morning show that we would tune in and listen together. It was a complete shock to all of us and a loss to those who knew her. We communicated via social media for quite some time but never met face-to-face. I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting her, but I know she no longer has to deal with any illness.
Update: After my visit with the podiatrist, it was suggested that I go to a lymphedema clinic. For over a year, my feet and ankles have been swelling due to retaining of fluid. In addition, my skin tone and skin texture were changing. So, my podiatrist wrote a prescription for me to go to this clinic….on tomorrow. I don’t like the fact that I can’t wear sandals due to my health changes and I have to wear compression socks.
I’ve been off-and-on with my routine of eating better. I had to drive in to work and haven’t been able to walk like I really wanted to at work. I need to return to it! I did have a nice meal earlier today
In essence, know your worth and take care of your health! Someone loves you and wants to see you do well! Life is to never be taken for granted. Treat your body right and it will take care of you!
In memory of my fellow #BreakfastClub family member, this was one of her favorite songs:
