A Healthy Journey is NEVER Easy (Catch-up Edition)

image

Yes, I admit that I’m late with my.post. I know some of you were expecting to see it on Sunday, February 17, 2013. My apologies to all who follow, read, and share my blog posts.

No one ever said that making changes for a healthier lifestyle is never easy. There will be days of temptation, and I’ve definitely have my share of them; whether to grab a doughnut or a piece of fruit; have fruits & vegetables or a fast-food meal. These past few weeks, I was preparing for a Black History Month Concert. We had two nights if rehearsal a week in additon to my.service in the music ministry as a cantor. I went to a restaurant bar for Valentine’s Day, so the portions at my outings were more than enough!

I did manage to get in exercise; cardio to be exact. I continue to push myself to do bettet, even in the midst of it all. There’s no quick-fix when it comes to pursuing and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. If that were true, we’d all have our personal “PhotoShop” LOL!!

I lost three pounds and I definitely don’t want to gain them back! I must keep moving. There’s so much to do & see! I want to see what else God has in store for me, so I MUST be ready!

Celebrate! But I Gotta Keep It Moving!

For this week’s blog post, I will attempt to put my thoughts into spoken word. Let’s see what happens….

Found out on last week about my 3-lb. weight loss after doing so much cardio taking public transit and counting calories. Celebrate! But I gotta keep it moving!

I must continue the journey I’ve started. I’ve come so far & can’t turn back! Celebrate! But I gotta keep it moving!

I’ll be able to look back at the experience and say that it was through faith in God that brought me to a better and healthier lifestyle. Celebrate! But I gotta keep it moving!

I’m grateful to be alive because I know God’s not through with me yet! I hope my journey can be an example to others that you can pursue and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Celebrate! But I gotta keep it moving!

This week, we acknowledge the 1st year anniversary of the death of Whitney Houston. It was also the 7th year anniversary for J-Dilla. I dedicate this week’s blog post to their contribution to the world: the gift of music. Celebrate! But we gotta keep it moving!

Lessons Become Blessings (Catch-up & SuperBowl Sunday Edition)

No matter what you’re going through in life, there’s a lesson to be learned that somehow turns into a blessing!

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been dealing with my own challenges that I will call lessons. It’s been said that “If you keep doing what you’ve been doing & expect different results, it doesn’t work that way.” The same can go for my health fitness journey. I have to continue to push myself with different workout routines; changing eating habits; making sure to drink more water. For over a week, my car was down due to loss of oil and a coolant flush. So in this lesson, I took public transit to work and music ministry rehearsal. It’s been brutally cold with wind chill factors in single digits and we’ve experienced snow that’s been consistent. I realized during this lesson that I needed to work out more. What I didn’t pay close attention to is that I’m slowly gaining strength in my legs and hopefully toning up with cardio.

I’ve been trying to cook more at home and using different recipes for smoothies, especially green ones. I’m looking forward to an income tax refund (so is everyone else LOL)
Thank goodness that some things could be repaired on my car. I had to list the priorities in order and concentrate what can be done. Trust me, if I had the resources at my disposal to repair everything on my car, I’d take care of it! I’m grateful that I can still drive it!

During my journey, I’m reminded to trust God and not give up hope, because he knows your heart and has plans for you that anyone could ever imagine. I sense that he has a plan for me during my journey but I haven’t locked in on it yet. I want to be able to be a blessing to someone else and share my journey. As it’s been said, “You can’t have a testimony without a test.” I will continue to keep moving as long as God allows me to.

This is American Heart Month where we highlight the awareness of heart disease among women. It’s the #1 killer of women, more than all forms of cancer combined! I wore my red for National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 1, 2013 as well as my heart dress pin. There will be events highlighting this issue, especially in social media. I participated in a 30-minute Zumba class. See? Another opportunity for cardio! It was a good turnout along with the pot luck lunch afterwards.

Today is the day for Super Bowl XLVII (47 -I was never good with Roman Numerals LOL) in New Orleans, LA between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. Granted, I’m a Dallas Cowboys Fan all day everyday, but it would be nice for Ray Lewis of the Ravens team to win it before he officially retires from football. Talk about someone who has a testimony of lessons becoming blessings is #52!

It’s already been a good day so I can’t complain. Just because I’ve lost a couple more pounds and will eat some food today, doesn’t mean I can kick back and let go! I still move forward!
