Holding On To The Promise

I’m a firm believer that God talks to us in ways that makes us say “Hmmmmmm…”

While I was reviewing the music and scripture readings for this weekend, I came across some key words:  precepts; follower; trust; faith.  You’re probably thinking, “What do these words have to do with your blog?” Let’s review the definitions of each word as mentioned in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

precepts – 1: a command or principle intended especially as a general rule of action; 2: an order issued by legally constituted authority to a subordinate official.

follower – a: one in the service of another :retainer; b: one that follows the opinions or teachings of another; c: one that imitates another

trust -1 a:assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something; b: one in which confidence is placed; 2a: dependence on something future or contingent:hope

faith – 1a: allegiance to duty or a person : loyalty;b (1): fidelity to one’s promises (2): sincerity of intentions;2a(1): belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2): belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion;b (1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2): complete trust; 3: something that is believed especially with strong conviction; especially: a system of religious beliefs <the Protestant faith>

I set a precept for myself to pursue and maintain a healthier lifestyle.  There are challenges that I face each day not only with this precept, but things come up when you least expect it or you know it will come up.  Each time I think about how better I will feel physically, mentally, and spiritually for keeping this precept, I REFUSE to give up. I try to follow good examples of others, and to hold on to faith which sustains me.

I continue to walk outside while I’m at work when the weather is good.  Honestly, I walked a 2-mile round-trip for two consecutive days last week.  I also am drinking a natural detox water that consists of cucumber, mint, and lemon.  Two liters of water to drink each day.  Would you believe I got the recipe from Pinterest? LOL

As I say in social media each day, “I STILL wear the shades and move forward in faith!” I hope that my journey to weight loss and a healthy future is a blessing not only to me but to someone else.

You know I can’t close out without some music! Have a wonderful week!

Loving Yourself

For the past few weeks, it seems that I’m becoming more aware of how God speaks to us.  I keep hearing the same mantra in “pearls of wisdom”; social media posts and in recent scriptures from the Old and New Testament in the Bible:

Even though my birthday was on August 27th, I continued to celebrate most of September (Virgo Season ended Sept 22nd).  For the first time, I didn’t have a birthday cake so I had an alternative: cupcakes—dark chocolate and red velvet!  They were truly delicious!

I still haven’t forgotten about my pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. I noticed when I went out on last weekend that I couldn’t wear a certain pair of wedge shoes last year. Now I was able to wear them and survived for over three hours (a record for me LOL)! Of course, I had a pair of flats to change into. I’ve made progress but I have a long way to go!

What does all this have to do with my journey? When trying to accomplishing goals, it’s always good to first love yourself and everything else will fall into place! In the past, I became very self-conscious because I wasn’t the “model size” or the “mainstream definition of beauty”.  As I get older, I realize that I’m becoming more comfortable in my own skin and doing something about my health and other situations concerning my life. It was in August 2011 that I made the official transition to a natural hairstyle—and I love it!

Right now, I’m about to head out for my daily walk.  I’m going to push myself to go to the community fitness center for more of a workout.  The weather has been beautiful these past few weeks. Nothing like a beautiful sky; wearing shades; listening to good music via headphones to stay motivated!

Speaking of good music, I’ve been inspired to share these songs….LOVE YOURSELF!

A New Day

Well, I’ve celebrated my birthday (August 27) until September 4, 2012 due to the Labor Day Weekend (LOL)!!

Ironically, during the entire celebration, I didn’t have a birthday cake–maybe that’s a good thing.

I enjoyed enough food to last me almost until the end of the month.  I was truly homesick and it was really good to go home and see family!  I haven’t seen them since Christmas 2011.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to return and visit home for Thanksgiving Day (another excuse to eat LOL).

In the meantime, I’ll continue my quest of pursuing & maintaining a healthier lifestyle. I continue to push myself.  Just yesterday (Saturday), I went to work out with my roommate at the gym.  It felt good getting some cardio in.  It’s VERY rare that I work out on the weekends. In addition, the fitness center looks really promising right now for a 3-4 day a week workout.  You can see my results on the bike:

It’s a new day for me and I won’t stop until I accomplish this goal and beyond.  Let’s see what else God has in store for me!

NOW for the music……
